It has been two long years since The Phantom’s Revenge released his last EP and it seemed quite hard to follow-up honestly. Tracks like No More Human Pyramids and Killing Power separated him from the other musicians in the genre, but now two years on, he’s back with a thumping and extravagant new EP.
What Am I Doing Wrong? Not much by the looks of it! Phantom’s opening track is a dancefloor filler, teeming with those chopped up samples and sweet-ass hi-hats that were in some of his recent tracks. After 7 and a half minutes of pure bliss, the insanely named I’ve Seen U Mesmerized Watching A Frozen Burrito screeches onto the scene faster than you can heat up a frozen burrito. With blatently good samples from the likes of the film Sharktopus, you can’t really afford to miss this one!
If you loiter around Phantom’s Soundcloud for long enough, you’ll find his Commercial Breaks, which are some short, but nifty mixes featuring his own tracks. This track however though is 40 seconds long, just like your average commercial break, and features some of the hard-hitting Disco House that we all loathe to hear.
The title track, Mental Gellar, is a shot above all the other tracks and amazingly, MSTRKRFT themselves have debuted the tune in secret at many of their own shows. How’s that for a bit of promo! You really get the prescence of an intricately made Disco House track with this one… Meanwhile, DJ BFF Slideshow adapts on Phantom’s newest formula, following in the footsteps of tracks like Jean Safari and Secret Full Contact Event.
Well it couldn’t be a Phantom’s Revenge EP without an outro now could it? Thismanisdanger feels like a jazzed up version of Killing Power but with more KAPOW! We’re loving every second of it!
