Review: Hudson Mohawke – Lantern LP

Warp Records have played host to some of the best electronic artists out there, including the musical genius Aphex Twin, as well as Flying Lotus with his new album You’re Dead! getting critical acclaim across the board. It’s Hudson Mohawke though, who has been consistent over the past few years with his releases, and his new album doesn’t shy away from what he does best.

With appearances from people like Ruckazoid and Irfane, this album is jam-packed with electronic potential. Tracks like Very First Breath fully embrace the listener, with Irfane’s distinctive lyrics reinforcing the amazing music-making skills from the Scotsman, that would then be remixed by the likes of Boys Noize in the future.

It’s not just the collaborations which are on point though! Ryderz samples D.J.Rogers’ Watch Out For The Riders and turns it into an electronic masterpiece, while Scud Books is heavy on the ears… Just the way we like it.
