Le Chau – Chapitre 2

From Montreal, Canada, we would like to introduce you to the french house collective, Le Chau, which we personally consider to be one of the few last bastions of the blog haus generation.

The Le Chau crew is composed not only of Canadian greats, Billboard, Jamz, and Demy, but it also sees A.C., Realmind, Clipz, Wilfredo, and June Nawakii come into play. What comes to mind when tuning into Le Chau? Well, somehow we think of acts, such as Danger, Sebastian Tellier, and Breakbot to pinpoint their style of music — retro, funky, and very well produced.

Tune into Le Chau’s Chapitre 2 below:

  1. The release of “Chapitre 2” carries with it some beautiful velvety atmospheric synth melodies and punchy high energy electro house vibes, that makes the album feel more like a journey rather than just everyday track listing.

The “Le Chau Collective” artists work quite well together and share same taste in musical genre, inspiration and electronic background, making for a seamlessly well rounded soundscape from track to track. The use of certain effects like vinyl static across many of the tracks deliver a sense depth and imperfection as well as the use of subtle field recordings such as seagulls and a girl speaking Japanese. By adding their own unique and creative touches as mentioned, not only engages a new generation of listeners, but also potentially sheds light on a new kind of music genre. Furthermore, the album cover art also demonstrates creative elements, displaying worn outlines of a vinyl record inside its sleeve, which compliment the retro style and tone of the album.

On the down side, the label may seem like a washed out genre from ten years ago trying to hang on for dear life with a group of artists with no solid direction. The importance of this particular label now it seems is to capture the sound and feeling of a particular time in dance music and creating a sense of nostalgia and let it grow from there.

Personally I gather so much inspiration and motivation from this particular label and its members. The way they produce music, share ideas and collaborate together to achieve a common goal is what I find to be the most influential quality and not to mention producing an original and entertaining release in the process. This label and its music may not fulfil everyones taste initially, but once having understood the creative process behind its production, it’s definitely worth a listen.
