An Interview with Italian Music Group, Fire Flowerz

Fire Flowerz are Luca and Matteo – both Italian, talented young men that have collaborated since 2007, initially producing Fidget-house and playing through Europe with big names from the electronic music scene, such as Avicii, Doomwork, Congorock, Cyberpunkers, and Reset!

Over the years, their sound has been in permanent evolution, coursing between dubstep, D n’ B, French-touch, electro, and disco, maintaining a groovy vibe in their tracks, collaborating specially with most of the Italian hip-hop artists (either mainstream and underground) as beat-makers or remixers.

FS: Today, we’ve got a sterling feature for you – Italian duo, Fire Flowerz. Let’s jump right in! So, tell us about your musical backgrounds. What made you become producers?

FF: As a lot of groups, we started as individual acts. Luca started around 13 years with a simple computer program and he immediately felt that music is what he wanted to do. He was really into the eurodance music that was really popular in Italy during the first years of the 21st century.

Matteo started later as producer (around 17 years) but he started before as rapper and then as beat-maker. We met at 16 years old and one year later we started our collaboration.

FS: It seems like a lot of modern producers have a similar experience as yours! Well, how has your sight for the project changed over the course of its existence?
FF: At the beginning, it was more like a game, we passed a lot of days in Luca’s bedroom making tracks over tracks. We were attracted by the fidget house scene and all that came out from UK. We’ve experimented with a lot of sounds, melting elements from Electro, House, Hip Hop and other genres.
Few years later we moved to a more funkier side, started making House music and Disco. We’ve always been really curious so we made also experiments with DnB, Dubstep, Electro House and we’ve also collaborated with rappers and singers around the world with some Pop / Hip Hop productions.
Now we are back to our roots, so we’ve started playing again with square basses and a less sample-based approach to our music. Stay tuned!

FS: Fidget house had gained quite a bit of popularity around the time that you started producing. At The French Shuffle, we definitely appreciate this funkier side of music – and especially your track, Unreal. What was the production process like when you collaborated with Solidisco?
 _
FF: There’s not proper a process. If we have a vocal, we start playing around some chords or bass lines on it, then we build the drums and we start the structure. We also love to play with some unusual sounds to add to our tracks, maybe just to have it a little bit more organic.
On collabs, we usually make at least half of the track at the beginning, then we add all the changes made by the other artist and we build the whole track. We send it back again and when we have all the other changes the track is almost done.
Then, Luca makes the mix and master and we are ready to play it around.

FS: That’s fantastic! It was a super hit. Collaborations are always a good way to bridge the gap between several producers, and we could really see that with you and Solidisco. Any other specific artists that catch your eye this year?
 _
FF: Hard question. Too many good artists outside!!!!!
 _
FS: Haha! Understandable. 2015 is going to be a crazy year for music! So, when you’re not making bangers in the studio, how do you spend your leisure time?
 _
FF: Hangin’ out with friends, movies, 3D computer graphics and movie fx…we are just two 24 years old guys like others.
 _
FS: Very cool. Sounds like you know how to keep yourselves busy! That leads me to the next question – tell us about the upcoming year. What are your plans for 2015? Both musical and personal.
 _
FF: We’ll soon release our remixes and a lot of new tracks. We are working on a couple of productions for some friends, we have collabs with Mace (Main Course) Simon de Jano (Sosumi) and The Voyagers (Spinnin), and there are some remixes we are working on.
We hope to travel a lot and to share our best works with you! Shout out to Freak Island, Aku, Davide and all our friends around the world!

FS: Well, there you have it – thanks so much to Fire Flowerz! Send some support their way!
